April

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION RESOURCES - April
April has a number of multi cultural religious celebrations and festivals. To help children understand and explore differing religions Karascope has a range of lesson plans covering, Sikhism, Muslim, Christainity to name a few.  For more information specific to your class take a look at Karascope's Religious Education Resources.


Passover : Jewish Holiday and Festival - 7th April
Passover is a Jewish holiday and festival. It commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt.

Easter Sunday – 8th April
Easter Sunday is a religious festival which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus following his crucifixion on Good Friday.  Easter is a moveable feast which is linked to the first Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox and as a results dates can vary from 21 March to as late as 25 April.

Children can learn more about Jesus through Karascope’s RE KS1 resource materials on Special People.

Visakhi : Sikh Celebration - 13th April
For people of Punjab, especially the Sikhs, Visakhi is a mega event. It's a religious as well as harvest festival and New Year Day also. For the Sikh community, it has a very special meaning. Sikhs celebrate Visakhi as the day of the formation of the Khalsa (the pure one).

Henry VIII - 21st April
Henry VIII becomes King of England in 1509, following the death of his father Henry VII.

London Marathon – 22nd April
The London Marathon is one of the biggest running events in the world and is one of the five top world marathons that make up the World Marathon Majors competition.  Founded by the former Olympic champion and renowned journalist Chris Brasher and Welsh athlete John Disley, it has been held each Spring in London since 1981. Karascope has a variety of PE resources that are suitable for Primary and foundation stage children that are creative and ready to use.  For older children, Karascope’s Focus Week for Science

includes a unit on Sport Science which helps explain the effects of sport on the body.

World Shakespeare Day - 23rd April
William Shakespeare, who was one of England’s greatest poets and dramatists, celebrate National Shakespeare Day, also known as Shakespeare Day, on April 23 each year.  No one really knows the exact date of William Shakespeare’s birth, although he was baptized on April 26, 1564, and died on April 23, 1616. He has left a literacy legacy that has inspired so many generations.  Inspire this generation and bring literacy alive.
